For my computer science study at Free University of Berlin I wrote a paper (only in German) about Skeleton of Shapes via Fast Computation of Generalized Voronoi Diagrams. It’s based on Voronoi Computation Using Graphics Hardware. We only added some modifications to use this approach to get the skeleton of a contour.
Skeletons of shapes are very useful for analysing human contours and human body interaction. So we are working on an c++ addon for openFrameworks!
During the work openNI was released. A powerful framework which besides can be used for robust skeletonization in combination with range cameras (like the Kinect). Although the problem of skeletonization appears to be solved for artistic requirements, we think a lightweight solution is needed furthermore. Especially because the use of the Kinect is limited in some cases.
